Amid reports of the arrests of Cambodian workers trying to enter Thailand illegally frequently, a video clip showing two women hiding in a pickup truck and detained by Thai authorities has been posted by a Facebook page with claims that they are Cambodian workers. Video clip attached to this claim has been distributed and posted vigorously recently. However, Fact Crescendo Cambodia\u2019s fact-finding found that the claim on this video is misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Media Claim<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 20, 2023, a Facebook page called \u201cTbong Khmum Candle light Party<\/a>\u201d posted a video showing two women found by Thai police in a pickup truck. The same Facebook page also claimed that the two women were illegal Cambodian workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Facebook page above does not specify the details and the location of the above case, which makes the users share many times, along with various expressions and reactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is the full video clip posted by the Facebook page above, which reads in Khmer or translates in English as \u201cCambodian workers are entering Thailand illegally and they have been arrested by the Thai authorities, pitying the Cambodian people that they dared to go to change their lives<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact Crescendo Cambodia started reviewing the video and the above claim through Google Reverse Image Search that led us to find out the following facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two women arrested by Thai police were found and published on The Thaiger<\/a> news website on October 20, 2022. It was confirmed that the two women were Burmese, who were smuggled into Thailand illegally by hiding in a pickup truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following is the full video clip reported by the above news media, which states that \u201cMyanmar workers are illegally continuing to smuggle into Thailand by various means. Two female workers were recently found in a pickup truck to deceive authorities but were stopped. Found and detained in Tak province<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of Cambodian workers illegally migrating to Thailand continued to increase at the start of the year, as many of them cheated by their brokers.
