Since the Israeli-Hamas Palestinian war erupted in early October, several videos related to the conflict have been posted on social media. Meanwhile, a video clip showing a multi-story building collapsing was posted on Facebook and TikTok recently. The video is linked to claims that it was the scene of a building collapse in Israel. The video link above has been re-distributed several times, with mixed reactions. However, we found that the video was associated with false information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is about our investigation of this claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Media Claim<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 2, 2023, a Facebook page posted a video clip showing the scene of the collapse of many buildings attached to a claim that this is a scene that has recently taken place in Israel. The clip above has been shared several times, along with a variety of user comments and reactions by the social media users speaking Khmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is the full video clip posted on social media with the caption, \u201cMany buildings in Israel have collapsed<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another video link with such a claim was also posted and found on the TikTok<\/a> video clip social network. See the full claim content via the archived link<\/a> here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact Check<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact Crescendo Cambodia reviewed and verified the above claim through the Google Reverse Image Search, which brings us to the following facts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video clip with the exact same view and shape of the collapsed building was found and published by ABC News<\/a> on May 20, 2019. The same news article did not confirm that it was a view of the collapse of buildings in Israel as a result of the recent war between Israel and Hamas Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, it was the scene of the collapse of the Martin Tower in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, which was destroyed by an explosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A view of another collapsed building of the same shape was also found on the Facebook page, which was named \u201cThe City of Fargo – Government<\/a>\u201d on September 17, 2023, in English that this was a view of the Lashkowitz skyscraper in Fargo, which was successfully demolished for development and not involved in the recent war between Israel and Hamas Palestine. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n
