As superstition has dominated the social media platforms in Cambodia for several months, a video of a witch captured in a security camera was widely circulated on social media last month. This leads to a belief that the witch captured on CCTV is true. However, our investigation finds the claim is false.
SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIM
A video of a witch captured on a closed-circuited television camera (CCTV) was widely circulated on social media platforms last month.
Then, many Facebook posts said a real witch was captured in a CCTV footage which was uploaded on social media.
The video had been widely shared, reacted to, and comment on by Khmer-speaking social media users.
Below is the full footage of the witch captured in the CCTV camera, which was circulated on Facebook on December 20, 20223, saying “there is a real witch captured on a security camera last night.”
The same video was also uploaded on social media by other Facebook users, leading to many shares and comments.

FACT CHECK
Fact Crescendo Cambodia began debunking the claim above by running an image reverse search which led us to find out the facts below.
By running an image reverse search, we found the same video was uploaded on social media by Facebook user “Puly TV” – a digital content creator for entertainment purpose.
Below is the full video uploaded by Puly TV on December 19, 2023 with a caption saying “A real witch was captured on a CCTV camera … a scene. This video is made for entertainment purposes only.”
Three day later, the Facebook page uploaded another video depicting a group of people trying to catch the witch, but it was clearly stated that the clip was a scene for fun.
Below is the full video uploaded by the social media user on December 22, 2023, saying “A real witch! It was trapped … Just a scene.”
By reviewing both video clips uploaded by the Facebook user, we see the same date and time appear in the CCTV footage, reflecting those two scenes of the witch were included in the same video.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia had tried to reach out to Puly TV Facebook page administrator via messenger, but no one reply to our inquiries.
Puly TV introduces itself as a digital content creator who focuses on cooking and making funny videos.
CONCLUSION
Fact Crescendo Cambodia found out the claim mentioned above is false. No real witch was captured on a security camera. The witch seen in video footage was just a scene created by a digital content creator.
