While China is the most populous country in the world, a photo that shows a lot of people along the beach was recently posted on social media, claiming that it is a beach view in China, and this claim has been widely circulated by social media users. Fact Crescendo Cambodia, however, found that this claim was false.

Social Media Claim

A photo showing a crowd on a beach was posted on social media two weeks ago. It is described as a view of a beach in China. Such claims have been shared thousands of times by social media users, along with mixed expressions and reactions as well.

The following is a picture of a statement on social media on June 14, 2023, that stated, "Beaches in China. If you lose a child, give birth to another child at once".

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia started to review and verify the above claim through the Google Reverse Image Search process, which led us to find the following facts:

We found many photos of the crowded beach and posted them on websites and international newspapers.

A photo posted on the Reuters website 10 years ago shows a crowd along this coast, located on the coast of Copacabana, Brazil, The news agency also confirmed that this was an aspect of the Catholic youth gathering to prepare for the reception of Pope Francis in July 2013.

Photos showing crowds along the upper coast were taken in 2013 during World Youth Day, where many young Catholics gathered. In one such event, nearly 3 million people flocked to Copacabana Beach to attend, with many sleeping on the beach the night before Pope Francis’ arrival in Brazil.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the claims attached to the photos, as described above, were false. The photo above is not a scene of a beach gathering in China. This is a view of the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during Pope Francis' visit in July 2013.
