After Bun Rany collapsed and was taken to Calmette Hospital in early February, much information about her health has been posted and shared on social media, including photos of Hun Sen's sister standing in front of a funeral flower stand for Bun Rany, which were also widely circulated online. However, we find that the above photo is digitally altered.

This is about our investigation of this claim.

Social Media Claim

A video clip showing a photo of Bun Rany, the wife of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, in a funeral flower stand has been posted on social media in the sense that she has passed away.

The video was shared on social media, along with comments and reactions from Facebook users who were speaking Khmer.

A similar photo was found and posted on February 4, 2024, showing a photo of Bun Rany with a statement claiming that she had died.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has started reviewing and verifying the above claim by reviewing the writing on the official Facebook page of Hun Sen's family and news reports in Cambodia for the last few days, which led us to discover the following truth:

News of the death of the leader's wife should be made public by government agencies and the public and private media. Other important means of promotion. However, no such information was published or disseminated by the public or private media in Cambodia.

We found out that Hun Sinath’s Facebook page posted a photo on February 2, 2024, showing her at the one-year anniversary of Bun Sotha, known as the sister of Bun Rany Hun Sen. Photos that have the same format as the attached photos in the video clip above do not show a floral view of Ms. Bun Rany.

The following is a comparison between the edited photo and the original photo found on social media.

Hun Many, the son of former Prime Minister Hun Sen and now Minister of Public Works, posted a photo of his father and his mother on his Facebook page on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.

However, we cannot confirm that this video and photo were actually taken on February 14, 2024. Fact Crescendo Cambodia also requested confirmation from Mr. Hun Many and Mr. Seng Teang, but received no response.

Hun Sen’s official Facebook page posted several photos and news that he and his wife were visiting the Great Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia, Tep Vong, at the Calmette Hospital this morning.

Among the six photos, we saw Ms. Bun Rany appears together with her husband on the visit.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has found that the above photo posted along with the claim is digitally altered. Bun Rany Hun Sen is still alive and just appeared publicly with her family recently.
