As various videos are circulated on social media platforms, a video depicting the processing of a product was uploaded on Facebook with a claim saying it is the production of fake rice. The video has gone viral on social media this week. However, after running a reverse image search, we discovered the claim was false.

SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIM

A 2-minute video depicting a processing of a product at a factory was uploaded on social media a few days ago. This video came with a claim saying it is the production of fake rice made from a mixture of materials.

The video claim had been shared more than 10,000 times within 24 hours, and many Khmer-speaking social media users reacted to and commented on it.

Below is the full video claim circulated on social media on February 13, 2024, with a caption saying “it’s a factory producing fake rice from plastic.”

The video claim had been circulated on social media by other Facebook pages, leading to more than 1,000 shares along with reactions and a lot of comments from Cambodian Facebook users.

FACT CHECK

Fact Crescendo Cambodia began debunking the claim above by running a reverse image search which led us to find out the facts below.

By running a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the full video of the production processing which was uploaded on a YouTube channel “All Process of World” eight months ago.

The video captioned by the YouTube channel says this is the glass processing in the factory of Yongcheon Natural Glass Co., Ltd, the private company in South Korea.

Found in 2001, Yongcheon Natural Glass Co., Ltd produces different sizes of glass and its products are exported to different Asian countries like Uzbekistan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and other South East Asian markets. See the company’s profile here.

CONCLUSION

Fact Crescendo Cambodia found out the claim mentioned earlier is false. The video is not of fake rice production. In fact, it is a glass processing at the factory of Yongcheon Natural Glass Co., Ltd in the South Korea.
