Fact Check: A Well-Known British Comedy Actor, Mr. Bean, Is Still Alive.

Many viral photos attached with a claim saying “Mr. Bean has just passed away” were posted recently on Facebook as well as other social media platforms. It was reshared and reacted with many mixed comments and it may be believed to be real by most Facebook users. However, after clarifying with his official agent and checking with reliable sources, it proves that the claim above was actually false.

This is about our investigation of this claim.

Social Media Claim

On November 23, 2021, one of the Facebook pages called “O Dear” posted a photo attached with the text claiming “Rest In Peace” on the portrait photo of a famous comedy actor, Mr. Bean. Rowan Sebastian Atkinson or many people called him “Mr. Bean” was born on January 06, 1955. He is an English actor, comedian and writer. He is best known for his work on the sitcoms Blackadder (1983–1989) and Mr. Bean (1990–1995). The claim above may be believed by some Facebook users to be real, with many Facebook users sharing and reacting.

Below is a screenshot captured from the Facebook page with the caption in English saying “R.I.P sir Rowan Sebastian “Mr.bean” Atkinson Born: January 6,1995-Died: November 22, 2021”.

Similarly, this claim was widely spread by many Facebook pages and users. The photo attached with the claim that “he has passed away” is also seen in a Facebook page called “Agaba Francis Page” which was posted last morning.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this claim directly by clarifying with his official agent and checking with reliable sources, which brought us to the following conclusions.

Noting that a confirmation from “PBJ Management” also quoted clearly and rejected that “We can safely say that Mr Atkinson is absolutely fine”. This has been confirmed after our team in Sri Lanka mailed to verify in this morning, November 23, 2021.

Also according to India News Report which published on yesterday, November 22, 2021 has clarified that the “British actor Rowan Atkinson, who is widely known for his roles in the comedy show Mr. Bean and the film Johnny English, is not dead. There are no credible reports about the news of his death and no such information was provided by his family. An old hoax about Rowan Atkinson's demise surfaced on social media once again and shocked fans who rushed to Twitter as they couldn't believe that their beloved Mr. Bean was dead”.

Rowan Atkinson, also known as Mr Bean around the world, has become a target of death hoax a couple times already. We have found that just a few months earlier in late May, 2021 , there was a similar claim also stating “he has passed away” as well.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has found that the photo attached with the claim above was actually false. Rowan Sebastian Atkinson aka Mr. Bean is actually still alive unlike the claim. This has been confirmed by “PBJ Management ", his official agent, on November 23, 2021.
