Family members of Prime Minister Hun Sen have often been the target of criticism and inappropriate comments. Meanwhile, a photo showing Hun San and Hun Sinath with an overlay text in Khmer “Passed Away” was posted recently on Facebook. This photo was attached with a claim that they both have already passed away. It was reacted to with mixed comments and shared by Facebook users who are speaking Khmer. However, after checking reliable sources and the clarifications from their family, it proves that the above claim was false.
This is about our investigation of this claim.
Social Media Claim
On May 07, 2022, one of the Facebook users has shared a photo to a Facebook Group called “Anti Hun Sen” which it depicts Hun San and Hun Sinath with a text overlay in Khmer which claims both of them have passed away. The news of this death caused a stir on Facebook, with mixed reactions from Facebook users who are speaking Khmer.
The following screenshot was captured from Facebook user’s post which translates in English as “Hun Neng passed away on Thursday, May 05, 2022 at 6:25 pm at the age of 72”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to review and verify the above claims through the latest news and clarifications from their family member.
News of the death of the family of the country’s leader should be officially announced by government agencies and the state media. However, according to Hun Sinath’s Facebook page published on May 19, 2022, it shows the pictures of Hun Sinath visiting her brother, Hun San, being cured in a hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.
The following screenshot was captured from the above Facebook page which means in English as “Today you look so fresh🙏 I wish you a speedy recovery”.
The below picture shows Hun Sinath visiting her brother, Hun San, who is lying on hospital bed in Bangkok.
Similarly, Hun Sinath also made a public appearance at the inauguration of Madame S’art and cut the ribbon on May 24, 2022 recently.
Fact Crescendo Cambodia team also sought further clarification with Hun Sinath herself. She dismissed claims on social media, saying that Hun San’s health condition improved a lot and had already returned home on May 24, 2022. She also confirmed that her health is good and there is no problem at all.
Separately, Hun Neng, an official of the Cambodian People’s Party and also the brother of Prime Minister Hun Sen has passed away on May 5, 2022 at the age of 73. He was the second child of six siblings, with Hun San as the eldest brother, Hun Sen, Hun Sengny, Hun Sinath and Hun Bunthoeun.

Conclusion
Fact Crescendo Cambodia has found out that the photo attached with the claim posted by Facebook user was false. Hun San is still alive and he’s already out of the hospital in Bangkok while Hun Sinath is still in a healthy condition unlike the claim posted above.
