Fact-Check: Did Meas Nee get injured after slipping in the bathroom?

As a political commentator criticizing Prime Minister Hun Sen-led government, Meas Nee is often engulfed by rumors and claims originating from those who are affiliated with the government and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP). One of the claims published on social media said the political commentator slipped on the toilet floor in his house, leaving his head slightly injured. The claim added Nee got injured due to a drunk situation after drinking white rice wine. After an interview with him, however, it is found out the claim is false.

Social Media Claim

On April 17 this year, a Facebook user claimed Cambodia’s leading political commentator Meas Nee got slightly injured after slipping on the floor in the toilet. The Facebook user added Nee slipped on the floor due to his drunkenness after drinking rice wine.

The claim had been shared several times by Facebook users along with comments and reactions from some social media as well.

Below is a capture of the claim read: “On April 17, 2021, Meas Nee – a political commentator – slipped on the floor in the toilet, getting a slight injury because of drunkenness after excessively drinking rice wine.”

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia began checking the claim by interviewing Meas Nee, leading us to find out the fact as follows.

In an interview with Fact Crescendo Cambodia on April 19, the political commentator rejected the claim, saying “fake news.”

Nee added he was fine and went out to his farming land located in Battambang province on that day, and he returned to fulfill his duties as normal.

Nee showed a photo taken on April 18, a day after the claim was posted on social media, and said he was at his farming land with very fine health condition.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo Cambodia found out the claim described above is false. Political commentator Meas Nee did not slip on the floor nor injured after drinking rice wine. He was in good health condition and fulfill his daily job as normal.
