A viral video clip depicting Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife dancing along with the government’s high-ranking officials was uploaded on social media in the middle of this month. The video shows the powerful couple dancing along to an anti-Vietnam song. The video had been shared multiple times. However, after running a reverse image search, we found out the video was altered.

Social Media Claim

A three-minute video showing Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife dancing along with the government’s high-ranking officials was posted on social media on August 15. The video clip also shows the country’s powerful couple enjoying dancing to a song titled “Vietnamese entering Cambodia” – one of the anti-Vietnam songs.

The video had been shared many times by social media users along with a mixture of comments and reactions.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia began verifying the video by running Google Reverse Image Search which led us to find out the facts as below.

We found the video published on a Facebook page Cambodian Today on August 06 with a caption “Saravan Khmer New Year”. The video shows the country’s most powerful couple enjoying dancing to a song named “A Bunch of Mangos”.

The same video was also posted by a Facebook page named “We Vote for Cambodian People’s Party” on August 07. The Facebook page wrote a caption “it is a rare occasion to see father and mother enjoy dancing Saravann. Let’s share it for our people.”

We found a video published on YouTube by CNC TV on April 14, 2016. The video shows PM Hun Sen and his wife enjoying dancing in Khmer New Year held in the historical park of Angkor Wat six years ago. The event was telecasted by different TV stations.

The live video depicts PM Hun Sen and his wife dancing to the Saravann genre in the song “A Bunch of Mangos.”

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo Cambodia found out the video mentioned above is digitally edited. PM Hun Sen and his wife did not enjoy dancing to an anti-Vietnam song. The original video depicts PM Hun Sen and his wife enjoying Saravann dancing to the song “A Bunch of Mangos” in Khmer New Year celebrated 6 years ago in Siem Reap province.
