Located in the middle of the Mekong River, Koh Pen island has become one of the beautiful places to relax among the locals. This island is rich in pure atmosphere, beautiful long white sand beach with bamboo bridge for national and international tourists to visit annually.

Meanwhile, a Facebook page has posted photos of an unknown waterfall on social media and it was claimed that that waterfall is located in Koh Pen island, Kampong Cham province and shared hundreds of times by Facebook users recently.

However, Fact Crescendo Cambodia's investigation and verification found that the claim along with the above photos is false.

Social Media Claim

On August 14, 2021​, a Facebook page called Troll_NTS posted three photos of a beautiful waterfall. The same Facebook page also confirmed the location of the waterfall in its own post, claiming it was located in Kampong Cham province. The photos attached to the above statement have been reacted with mixed comments and shared thousands of times by Facebook users speaking Khmer.

A screenshot captured of the claim in Khmer language translated in English as “Kampong Cham, Koh Pen, anyone knows, please let Admin know too”.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has started its own investigation of this claim by running a Google Reverse Image search which led us to some reliable sources with the exact locations as follows.

A photo showing the view of this waterfall can be found on Getty Images, a British-American visual media company and is a supplier of stock images, editorial photography, video and music. This website also confirmed the location of this waterfall where it is actually situated in Jeju island, South Korea.

Another exact photo can be also found on Getty Images website which features this waterfall. Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that this website does not specify the location of the waterfall above in Koh Pen, Kampong Cham province like the Facebook page has mentioned.

Where is Jeongbang Waterfall located actually?

Jeongbang Waterfall is best known as one of the most famous waterfalls on Jeju island, South Korea. This waterfall is a very attractive place for tourists to visit where it is also situated near the ocean. This waterfall is approximately more than 23 meters high.

Another additional screenshot taken from the Alamy website, published on November 03, 2018, is also described and mentioned about its location. The information written in English stated that "Aerial View of The High Waterfall Jeongbang, Lagoon and Seoqwipo on Jeju island, South Korea".

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo Cambodia have found out that the above-mentioned claims are false.​ It was not situated in Koh Pen, Cambodia. ​This waterfall is actually known as “Jeongbang Waterfall” and it is located in Jeju island, South Korea.
