On January 17, 2023, a Facebook user posted a video clip lasting about 1 minute and 05 seconds showing the wreckage of a plane. The video shared by social media users was claimed to be the wreckage of a civilian aircraft that crashed in central Nepal on Sunday. Claims attached to the video above have been shared and commented on by various Facebook users who have been speaking Khmer recently.
Below is the full video clip posted by the user above in Khmer or translated in English as “Fragments of the crash. It looks very sad 🙏”.
The video was also posted and shared by other TikTok users on the 16th. January 2023 recently.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia started to check the above video through Google Reverse Image Search, which led us to find the following facts.
The same video clip was found and posted on YouTube on February 18. 2014, which was confirmed in English as “Plane Crash Set at Universal Studios Hollywood.” This proves that the video posted by the Facebook user above is false.
Similarly, another video posted on YouTube on July 23, 2018, shows views similar to those published by users and incorrectly claims to crash in Nepal recently.
An exact photo of the crash was also found and posted on Alamy’s website, described in English as “Plane Crash Scene, Universal Studios backlot, Los Angeles, California, USA.”’.
