A monk living in a hermitage in Kampong Chhnang province was posted and shared lively on social media in recent weeks. At the same time, a photo of the monk wearing a yellow cloth and equipped with various on-camera microphones indicates that he was harassed by the producer of the social media or news content. The above post has been shared and commented on many times by various social media users. However, Fact Crescendo Cambodia fact-finding found that the photo was edited.

Social Media Claim

On October 2, 2023, a Facebook page called โ€œChim Sophat = แž‡แžธแž˜โ€‹ แžŸแžปแž•แžถแžโ€ posted a photo depicting a Cambodian monk equipped with on-camera microphones on his own yellow cloth. The same photo was attached with the caption, โ€œSome individuals, for personal gain, disturb the grace of God all day and all nightโ€.

The photos attached to the post above were shared several times, along with reactions and expressions mixed by Facebook users.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia reviewed and verified the above claim through the Google Reverse Image Search process, which led to the following facts:

The photo, which has the exact same shape, was found in a video clip posted on the video website YouTube on September 27, 2023. We observe that in the video interview lasting more than 6 minutes, none of the points show his views equipped with many on-camera microphones.
