A video of a large wave breaking against the port wall was recently posted on Facebook after recent floods caused by heavy rainfall in various areas of South Korea. It features a caption and a voiceover that claim it occurred in South Korea just a few days ago. Social media users have re-shared this video numerous times. However, conducting a Google Reverse Image search demonstrates that the above post is misleading.

Social Media Claim

A Facebook page called “White House News” recently published a video on September 09, 2022 depicting a seaport being flooded by waves. According to the Facebook page, the film depicted a scene of storms and flooding in South Korea. A video post with such claims has recently received a lot of active social media circulation.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia began to investigate the stated claim using Google Reverse Image Search, which let us discover the reality as follows.

SBS, a Korean news website, discovered and released a video clip with the exact identical pattern on September 03, 2020. This newspaper’s articles was written in Korean or translated with Khmer meanings as “In September 2020, the storm has hit South Korea’s Samcheok Imwon port”.

The following is a summary of a typhoon that struck a port in South Korea two years ago as reported by SBS.

Additionally, a video of the port flood was discovered and uploaded to YouTube. It is quite evident that the video clip is related to the assertion as it was uploading since September 02, 2020 which means the above claim posted by a social media user is misleading.
