Cambodian Ayai Singer Mr. Prum Manh is Still Alive

Photos showing Cambodian Ayai singer, Prum Manh, laying on a hospital bed with “RIP” were posted recently on Facebook. These photos were attached with a claim that he has already passed away. It was reacted to with mixed comments and shared by many Facebook users who are speaking Khmer. However, after checking reliable sources and clarifications from his family, it proves that the above claim was false.

This is about our investigation of this viral claim.

Social Media Claim

On March 24, 2022, one of the Facebook pages called Good Morning posted four photos showing Prum Manh along with the claims stating that he has passed away. This post has been widely shared on Facebook recently with a lot of mixed reactions and comments from Facebook users who are speaking Khmer.

The following is an image captured from the Facebook page above which translates in English as “Mr. Prum Manh has just passed away”.​

The above claim was also posted and shared by other social media users. Here is the screenshot captured from the user’s post claiming in Khmer and translating English as “Rip, Oum Prum Manh, I will never forget your smiles and you spoke very sweetly, only photos left, please rest in peace”.

Fact Check

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has started to review and verify the above claims through the latest news and clarification made by his wife.

According to Sar Kheng’s Facebook page posted on March 24, 2022, it shows the view of Mr. Prum Manh, who is currently receiving medical treatment at one of the hospitals in Phnom Penh, where he has been hospitalized since Saturday, March 19.

The following screenshot was captured from the Facebook page above that reads in Khmer and translates into English as “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Kheng, appointed a cabinet official to bring 5,000$ donations to Mr. Prum Manh. Prum Manh is now being treated at Pacific Phnom Penh hospital and his health condition improved more than the day he was first admitted to the hospital on March 19, but he still couldn’t be able to walk yet”.

Below is a photo showing the scene of Mr. Prum Manh receiving a donation from the Minister of Interior, Mr. Sar Kheng.

The above claim was also denied and rejected by Mr. Kheng Ratanak (aka Neay Prek), a nephew of Mr. Prum Manh on his Facebook page on March 24, 2022. In a video that lasted more than a minute, he added that the news claiming that Prum Manh died was not true at all.

On the same day, Mr. Prum Manh also confirmed and appeared in a video interview with Mr. Tang Kim Leng. He has rejected the claim and says that he is still alive and currently being treated in hospital. His health has also improved and is getting better as well.

Our Fact Crescendo Cambodia team also sought clarification by phone interview with Prum Manh’s wife on the afternoon of March 25, 2022. Kong Sochenda, Prum Manh’s wife, denied and rejected all those claims made on social media. She has added that her husband is still alive and he’s now getting better from day to day.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the photos attached with the claims made by the above Facebook page are false. Cambodian Ayai Singer, Prum Manh, is still alive and he is currently being treated and cured for high blood pressure at Pacific Phnom Penh Hospital and his health condition is also getting better.
