Hsuehshan Tunnel Falsely Claimed to be in Thailand
When talking about Thailand, we will first think of Cambodia’s neighboring country, which has tourist attractions such as cities, islands, beaches, and especially the beautiful scenery and culture which are attracting tourists from all around the world to travel to this country. Meanwhile, a photo showing a long tunnel running through the forest was posted on a Facebook page recently. It was claimed as it is situated in Thailand. This photo was reacted to and shared by many social media users. However, after running a Google Reverse Image, it proves that the claim above was false.
This is about our investigation of this photo.
Social Media Claim
On February 22, 2022, one of the Facebook pages called Dream UPSC posted a photo showing a view of a tunnel crossing a mountain. This view has been confirmed that it is in Thailand and has been shared several times by Facebook users. The Facebook page above did not specify the exact location at all besides Thailand. Thailand is a country located in Southeast Asia which shares borders with Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Myanmar.
The following is a screenshot captured from the above Facebook page which was written in English as “Tunnel in Thailand. This is how they are doing developmental works without damaging nature”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this photo directly by running a Google Reverse Image search, which brought us to the sources containing the following photos.
The exact photo was found on the Photo Rator website which states in English as “A series of tunnels through Taiwan”. The above website does not specify this photo of the tunnel located in Thailand at all.

Similarly, according to the Tech & Facts website published on October 31, 2013, it revealed a photo that has the same shape and form. This website also confirmed the name and location of the tunnel that it is called Hsuehshan Tunnel which is located in Taiwan.

Where is this tunnel located?
This tunnel, commonly known as the Hsuehshan Tunnel, is located in Taiwan. This tunnel was first constructed in 1991 and commissioned on June 16, 2006. The starting point is in Pinglin District, New Taipei City until Toucheng, Yilan County, which is approximately about 13 kilometers long.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has found that the above-mentioned claim posted by the Facebook page is false. This photo of the tunnel is not located in Thailand. It is known as Hsuehshan Tunnel which is located in Taiwan.
