Many photos and video clips of natural landscapes have been posted on social media, including edited photos and fake videos as well. Meanwhile, a viral photo showing a rock shaped like a Gorilla was posted by a Facebook page on social media recently. It may be believed to be real as this photo has been shared and reacted with mixed comments thousands of times by Facebook users. However, after running a Google Reverse Image search, it proves that the photo above is altered.
This is about our investigation of this photo.
Social Media Claim
On March 16, 2022, one of the Facebook pages called “Beauty Love” posted a photo showing a view of a rock shaped like a gorilla. This photo has been reacted with mixed comments and shared many times by Facebook users on social media as it may be believed to be a real photo.
The following screenshot is captured from the Facebook page above which was written in English as “Gorilla Rocks”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this photo directly by running a Google Reverse Image search, which brought us to the sources containing the following photos.
An exact photo of the same shape and form of this rock was found on the Dreamstime website, an online royalty-free microstock provider based in Brentwood, Tennessee. This website published a photo that does not look exactly like the gorilla at all. The following is an image from the website above captured and added to its location in English as “Famous Faraglioni rocks off the island of Capri, view from the sea under vast blue skies, Italy”.

According to the Alamy website, it also provides detailed information and its location as well. This rock is commonly known as the Faracioni Rocks which is located on Capri island, Italy. Here is an image from the above website written in English as “Boats cruising around the Faraglioni rocks in the Tyrrhenian sea, along the coast of the island of Capri, Italy”.
A similar photo was also found on the Italy Cat website which confirmed the location of this area in English as “The Faraglioni is one of the most important symbols of Capri. The tallest one measures 109 meters. They can only be reached by boat, and it is a natural spectacle”.

Conclusion
Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the photo shared by the above Facebook page was false. It was altered before posting on social media platforms. This photo is known as Faraglioni rock, and it is on Capri Island, Italy. This rock does not appear to be an exact form of Gorilla like posted above at all.
