Fact Check: Is this an elephant shaped rock?
The spread and a new wave of Covid-19 infection has had a devastating effect on all sectors, especially on tourism whereby some countries still continue to ban the travel its citizens to move or go to various tourism spots. Meanwhile, a photo showing a beautiful rock in the shape of an elephant has been recently posted and shared by many users on Facebook.
This is about our investigation over this photo.
Social Media Claim
On September 13, 2021, one of the Facebook users recently posted a photo to a Facebook Group named *AMAZING NATURE*, showing a rock with an animal-like shape. This rock is seen to be an elephant.
This photo has had mixed reactions and been shared hundreds of times by users on social media.
A screenshot captured the photo along with the caption stated as “WOW”.
Similarly, on September 13, 2021, another Cambodian Facebook user also reshared this photo to the Facebook Group known as “TV Sorn Dara”, which has more than 90,000 members.
A screenshot captured the claim in Khmer language translated in English as “A giant rock is like a coincidence, the creativity or real life in the ancient times.”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia has started to check and verify this photo directly by running a Google Reverse Image search, which brought us to the sources containing the following original photos.
An exact photo of the viral photo has been found on a website called Tour HQ where it does not show a rock shaped like an elephant at all. Tour HQ is an online platform that connects travellers with tourism service providers. The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece ,hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos.

Another photo showing this beautiful rock formation has also been found on Getty Images. Getty Images is a British-American visual media website and is a supplier of stock images, editorial photography, video and music for business and consumers, with an archive of over 200 million assets. It also states the location of this place as in “Monastery Agia Trias” where it is also listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia has found out that the photo above was altered before posting on Facebook recently. This is actually known as “Monastery Agia Triada in Meteora” which is located at Meteora, Greece and it does not show a rock ,shaped like an elephant at all.
