While many people have lived on earth for more than 100 years so far, a video clip showing an old monk has been posted on social media recently. This video is attached with a claim stating that this old monk is 399 years old. This claim has been shared and reacted many times by Facebook users who are speaking Khmer. However, after running a Google Reverse Image search, it proves that the video attached with the claim above is false.
This is about our investigation of this video clip.
Social Media Claim
On February 20, 2022, one of the Facebook pages called Hul Reaksmey Samros Thom Cheat posted a video clip showing the scene of an old monk chanting a rug to a little girl. The above page claimed that this monk is about 399 years old. It has been shared and mixed reactions thousands of times by Khmer-speaking Facebook users recently.
The following screenshot was captured from the Facebook page’s post which translates into English as “He is 399 years old. Comment & Share and may you have happiness”.

Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this video directly by running a Google Reverse Video search, which brought us to the source, Dailymotion.
According to the Dailymotion website published on February 20, 2cently, it revealed a video clip with the exact same form as the video claimed above. This was confirmed in Thai that “หลวงตา อายุ 109 ปี กำลังให้พรเหลนน้อย พร้อมเขียนแคปชั่นระบุ “เมื่อเหลนน้อยมาเรียกหา หลวงตาสัมผัสได้ถึงความรักและห่วงใย เรียกมาเคาะหัวให้พรเหลนเลย สาธุๆ” หลังคลิปถูกโพสต์และแชร์ในโลกออนไลน์ ชาวเน็ตเข้ามากราบสาธุกันเป็นจำนวนมาก และยอดวิวคนดูก็พุ่งสูงถึง 45 ล้าน ภายในหนึ่งวัน” or translated into English via Google Translate which means “Luang Ta, 109 years old, is giving blessings to his great-grandchildren. along with writing a caption specifying “When the little grandson came to call Luang Ta can feel the love and care. Called to knock on the head for the great-grandchildren. Amen.” After the clip was posted and shared online. Many netizens came to pay their respects. and the number of viewers reached 45 million within a day”.

The above was also confirmed and verified by the Snopes website as well on February 21, 2022. The same website did not confirm that this monk is 399 years old as claimed on the Facebook page above at all.
The above website also added in English as “The video shows a 109-year-old man whose name appears to be Luang Pho Yai”.

Videos of Luang Pho Yai have been seen and found on TikTok, a video-focused social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd, which is uploaded by a user account named auyary13. The following screenshot was captured from a TikTok user’s account which shows many videos of the 109 years old monk who is residing in Thailand.

Conclusion
Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the video clips and claims by the above Facebook page were incorrect. This video shows an old monk who is not 399 years old unlike claimed by the Facebook page. He is known to be Luang Pho Yai who is currently 109 years old.
