
Our planet is full of beautiful and incredible places as we have seen in many countries whether they are man-made or natural. Meanwhile, there is a photo showing a shipwreck located in nowhere of water was posted recently on the social media platform. It was claimed and linked that the photo is located at Peam, Cambodia and it was reacted with mixed comments and shared by Facebook users. However, after running a Google Reverse Image, it proves that the claim attached with the photo above is misleading.
This is about our investigation over this photo.
Social Media Claim
On October 7, 2021, a Facebook user posted a photo that shows a shipwreck with a tree growing around it in the middle of the water. This user also claimed that it was located at Peam (Cambodia). This photo may make users think that this is located in Cambodia as there are number of users’ opinions and it was shared many times as well.
The following is a screenshot captured from the user’s post that reads in Khmer and translates in English as “Koh Lech Sampov in Peam”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this photo directly by running a Google Reverse Image search, which brought us to the sources containing the following photos.
This exact photo was found on the Alamy Stock Photo website which states in English: “Aerial shot of the SS City of Adelaide shipwreck on the coast of Magnetic Island”. Almay is a British privately owned stock photography agency launched in September 1999. This website did not state nor confirm that this place was located in Cambodia at all.
Below is a photo, captured from the Alamy website showing the view of the Adelaide ship that sank and had trees growing in Australia.

According to an American online video sharing and social media platform owned by Google, Youtube, there was a video clip posted on June 20, 2018, and it showed an exact location and the shipwreck.
A snapshot captured from the YouTube video captioned the video clip in English as“S.S. City of Adelaide Shipwreck – Magnetic Island – Townsville QLD”.
Fact Crescendo also found this place on Google Earth that shows the exact location of the City of Adelaide Shipwreck. This is one of the historical landmarks and it is located in Australia.

Conclusion
Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the above-mentioned claims along with the photo were misleading. This photo factually was known as “S.S City of Adelaide Shipwreck” which is located in Australia.
