
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian troops to invade Ukraine. The news also covered global media and social media. Meanwhile, a video clip showing planes flying over the skies has been posted on social media recently. This video is attached with a claim stating that they were the Russian planes flying over Ukraine during the latest war. This claim has been shared and reacted many times by Facebook users who are speaking Khmer. However, after running a Google Reverse Image search, it proves that the video attached with the claim above is false.
This is about our investigation of this video.
Social Media Claim
On February 24, 2022, one of the Facebook users named Rural Khmer Farmer posted a video clip showing several fighter jets flying over the sky. The Facebook page claimed they were Russian planes that were attacking and flying over Ukraine’s capital city. This claim has been shared and reacted to many times by users. Below is a video captured from the Facebook user’s post above which translates in English as “Russian warplanes fly over Kyiv early in the Ukraine war”.
Similarly, the same video was also found and claimed to be Russian planes that flew on cities of Ukraine on Twitter recently. Below is an exact video taken from a Twitter user’s channel which was written in English as “Russian planes are flying over the skies of #Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine”.
Fact Check
Fact Crescendo Cambodia had started to check and verify this video directly by running a Google Reverse Video search, which brought us to the sources containing the following videos.
The exact video clip, which has the same format and shape, was found on the Youtube video site. It was posted by a YouTube user account called Lessony on May 4, 2020. This video does not show the Russian fighter jets flying over Ukraine at all. The following video was taken from the website above which was stated in English as “Flyby Moscow (May 04, 2020)”.
Similarly, according to The Moscow Times website published on May 4, 2020, it also revealed the same scene of military rehearsal in Moscow, Russia, as a parade flight of fighter jets. Here is the following video captured from the website above which was written in English as “Military Planes Fly Over Moscow in Victory Day Rehearsal”.

The above video was also verified and checked by 10 BWNS on February 24, 2022. The same website above confirmed in English that “This video does not show Russian fighter jets flying over Ukraine. The footage is from the 1:14 mark of a video of a Moscow flyby from May 4, 2020”.

Conclusion
Fact Crescendo Cambodia found that the video clips and claims by the above social users were incorrect. This video factually does not show Russian fighter jets flying over Ukraine. The footage is found and taken from the 1:14 mark of a video of a Moscow flyby since May 4, 2020, during the Military Rehearsal in Russia.
